Our aim is to make therapy accessible.

We do this by accepting several insurance plans, and by offering a sliding scale to a number of patients.

We accept, and are

in-network with these

insurance companies:

Aetna

Anthem, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, and related plans

Cigna, Evernorth

Medicare, Advantage plans through Aetna, Anthem, and United Healthcare, & Supplement Plans

United Healthcare, Connecticare, Optum, Oxford, UMR, and related plans

Husky A, B, C, and D; Medicaid

We are a “non-network TRICARE Certified Provider”, accepting TRICARE insurance out of network.

Various laws require us to have what’s called a usual and customary fee. This is what we charge to all insurance companies, for example, for intake appointments, and all types of therapy.

Our usual and customary fee is $180.

Most people don’t pay that much, because (1) they use their insurance, (2) they’re eligible for our sliding scale, or (3) they negotiate the rate with us. Please read about those options here.

Health Insurance

If you use insurance to pay for therapy, your insurance plan decides how much you pay out of pocket, and what the insurance company will pay.

Insurance companies forbid outpatient providers from sharing their fees with you ahead of time. Hospitals are required to share their fees, but outpatient providers like us cannot share them. Hopefully laws will change to allow us to be transparent.

Ask your employer or your insurance company whether your insurance (1) covers outpatient mental health treatment (most do), (2) what your out of pocket cost for therapy is, and (3) how many sessions they cover.

If we aren’t in-network with your insurance (see list above), out-of-network benefits are sometimes available through insurance. Ask your insurance the questions in the paragraph above, and see whether that may be an affordable option for you.

If you don’t have insurance, or choose not to use it, you have some other options with us.

Sliding Scale

We offer a limited number of sessions at a reduced fee to people who are (1) signed up with Open Path Collective, or (2) if your household income or expenses are no more than $100,000 per year.

Open Path Collective sets its own rates. Check out their website for details.

Here are our current sliding scale rates:

Up to $60,000: $60 per session
$60,001 - $80,000: $80 per session
$80,001 - $100,000: $100 per session

As long as you’re on the sliding scale, the mental health information you give us is not shared with insurance, which increases your privacy. Federal and state privacy laws, and their exceptions, still apply, including mandated reporting, duty to warn, etc. Our Notice of Privacy Practices goes into more detail about your right to privacy. It is available to view under the About page, and would be provided to you if we work together.

Speak with us for details.

Clients on the sliding scale will receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE). Your rights through the GFE are included on this page.

Negotiating Rates

You have the option to pay for therapy out of pocket. In this case, you’re not using insurance, and the sliding scale isn’t an option.

These fees are negotiated on a case by case basis, and the fees range from $120 to $180 per session.

Good Faith Estimate (GFE)

This is the same GFE as what’s located under the About page.

If you plan to pay for therapy through the sliding scale, or out of pocket, here’s some important information.

We will provide you with a Good Faith Estimate with specific fees once we schedule you for an intake appointment, within one to three days of scheduling your appointment, depending on how far out your appointment is scheduled.

The Good Faith Estimate is provided on a yearly basis to anyone that is (a) uninsured, or (b) choosing to pay for services out of pocket (the law in question refers to this option as "self-pay"). In these situations, Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act requires that you receive a good faith estimate of your expected charges with the Practice. This estimate is not a contract and does not require you to work with us.

We will provide you with the cost of services with us that are reasonably expected for your health care needs, through the end of the year. The estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created. The Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment, like if you request, or we recommend, more frequent sessions at a later time. You could be charged more if complications or special circumstances occur. Federal law allows you to dispute (appeal) your bill.

Please let the Practice know if we charge you more than the Good Faith Estimate we provide. You can ask us to (a) modify your costs to match the Good Faith Estimate, (b) negotiate your costs, or (c) or ask us about financial assistance, e.g. paying through the sliding scale.

If you are billed $400 or more over your Good Faith Estimate, you can also dispute the charges by starting a dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). If you choose to use the dispute resolution process, you must start the dispute process within 120 calendar days (about 4 months) of the date on the original bill. There is a $25 fee to use the dispute process. If the agency reviewing your dispute agrees with you, you will pay no more than the price on the Good Faith Estimate. If the agency agrees with the Practice, you will have to pay the higher amount. To learn more and get a form to start the process, go to www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call HHS at 1-877-696-6775.
